TORRINGTON — Local fire crews extinguished a blaze in a commercial space under renovation with apartments on the second floor early Thursday, according to fire officials.
Shortly after midnight, fire units were sent to East Main Street on an activated fire alarm.
Officials said the first unit at the scene reported smoke coming from the roof area of a two-story commercial building with residential apartments on the second floor.
The first floor was undergoing renovations at the time of the fire, officials said.
The blaze was accelerated to a second alarm to get additional personnel and resources to the scene.
Crews got the flames under control in about 50 minutes, officials said. The flames were contained to the first floor, with smoke damage throughout the building and adjacent residential units.
All occupants were cleared from the building. There were no injuries reported to any residents or firefighters.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
